well i was think about connecting 2 computers thru USB, and i was told you can merge them to make one very powerful computer. You need a program that has a particular algorithm that will distribute information to be computed by other computers. i cant find that program, can anyone help?

thanks :)

Search: distributive computing linux

What you want is an operating system. To the best of my knowlage MS Windows can't distribut computing. There is a variant of Memphis that can do what you want, only using ethernet cables to do it. Most will use networking to do it instead of using USB. Moved it to Algor.

Bill Gates said the following when refering to the features of vieanna:
Quote:
That means that right now when you move from one PC to another, you've got to install apps on each one, do upgrades on each one. Moving information between them is very painful. We can use Live Services to know what you're interested in. So even if you drop by a [public] kiosk or somebody else's PC, we can bring down your home page, your files, your fonts, your favorites and those things. So that's kind of the user-centric thing that Live Services can enable. [Also,] in Vista, things got a lot better with [digital] ink and speech, but by the next release there will be a much bigger bet. Students won't need textbooks; they can just use these tablet devices. Parallel computing is pretty important for the next release. We'll make it so that a lot of the high-level graphics will be just built into the operating system. So we've got a pretty good outline.

Only he could make something like that sound so ridiculously painful.
That reminds me, I found a site on Google where a guy talks about how to use mutexes. He made an analogy to using a restroom. He was a Microsoft Most Valued Professional. I find that ridiculous.

Of course. When the internet entered the public stream, people where saying that a big distributed computer without desktop software(think of java) was the next step. So this is just a manifistation of that idea. So is SETI's supercomputer, but that's a diffrent story.
