Any particular reason, or does c++ seem like it's commonly used?

C. It's effective, It's used everywhere, It's stable, loads of reasons.

The reason as to why I use c/c++ is that it's a more "powerful" language.

I think C++ is used more than C.

I never said it was used more, I said it's used everywhere. If a computer doesn't have both, it more often has a c compiler on it than a c++ compiler (could be because every c++ is a c compiler, and not the other way around :P ).
Anyway, it's easier to make complete crap in c++ than c, and it's much harder and less effective to do low level stuff.

To counter your last point, the increase in hardness & effectiveness is countered by the powerfulness of having OO.

Well I would agree that theoretically, OO would be a very powerful way to do low-level, and I would like it very much.
I'm simply speaking of the fact that if you want to use objects in OS code or similar, be prepared to write the handling yourself, in C. Otherwise, It's possible, it just probably won't work right.

Yes, but if you have to use objects it eliminates the option to use C because it is not OO. Also it's rare to find an OS that's only written in one language

By OS I meant Kernel.
And when would you have to use objects?

You don't at all but it make the code easier in certain situations.
