amateur radio (ham radio)

robots

sky's the limit that way
a robot that would go any where in the world for you! with little to no limitations, a little bit of picture and sound delay could cause difficulty, and I'm not sure if it could send messages thru obstacles... :( but it would be fun to try something like that. Africa, HERE I COME!

Why would a radio need moving parts?

It's still not technicly a robot. Robot's have to be autonomous at some point in their programs, not just waiting for instructions.

Location: Earth, usually.
They mean really short, local radio, like bluetooth range. You can't use a longwave AM thing that will reach Africa, that's reserved, and will probably be interfered with by other signals with the same frequency, you can bet. Also, all the moving around, and all the space in between, do you know how much interference that is? You would never be able to do it. Now, something that uses broadband signal, that would be something.
